After nearly a decade, a family in the Dominican Republic decided to exhum their grandmother, Margarita Rosario, from La Colonia Cemetery in Jarabacoa. According to relatives who spoke to Jam Press, despite the lengthy burial, they were surprised to find that she still had a full head of hair, some skin, and enough bones to stand with little support.
Witnesses captured a video outside the graveyard, showing a man holding up the corpse while a woman dressed her in a white nightgown.
A small group gathered to watch the standing corpse after the exhumation, with local residents expressing shock at Rosario’s preservation.
One local in Jarabacoa commented, “She was a good person in life. That’s why she is still preserved,” while another noted that the body “keeps standing up and everything.” In a video, a third person marvelled at the “intact, incredible skin as if the years had not passed.”
However, not everyone was pleased with the family’s decision to disturb their grandmother’s rest. “Now let the poor grandmother rest, wow,” one person said.
The family did not provide a reason for the exhumation.
